Heh! You've seen that thing? I didn't realize that it's been alive in that state for that long.

I, however, have no business talking for my wife has created the world's biggest golden retriever via a combo of sympathy feeding and a thyroid problem. (We also have a fit & trim chocolate lab.)

WOW....I guess when James started this thread, he didn't know what he started. 8-[ He started the same discussion last year and only got 50 posts. I guess we might have been more on topic back then?

This thread is now #6 is the thread with the most posts (yeah, I love to procrastinate  - not motivated).

Easily one of the most inexplicable memes ever. Is there a Cliff's Notes version?

The takeaway is: real men don't count ski days.

In Utah we do. It's a requirement of residency.

Careful, Tony is going to come up with a multiple regression on the quality of a ski season.

Variables would be:
Ski days
Day of the week
Vertical
Feet fallen in the last 24 hours
Snow fallen in the season so far
Number of thaw/rain event cycles in the last month
Ski area acreage
Lift capacity
Enjoyment
Wind speed and temperature

...AND the answer this ultimate question would be an answer...a simple answer.

ya forgot one variable patrick!

another variable would be:

where everyone else is skiing and why it's better than where yer skiing by all reports but not his. :P

Let me see :-k , the thread was about "Your 2007-08 Ski Day Count".

This thread has been off-topic and going every directions since page 2. Go ahead. 8) Surprise Tony didn't break this thread in 20 different pieces.

:hijack:

With Post #135 in this thread, we're closing on the Top 3 and the FIRST off-topic thread going in all directions in the history of FTO.

3) Killington 5/19&20/3: 139 (East in 2003) ***first official Kmart bitching mega thread.

Patrick's right. Topics on this thread have been like herding cats. But until now it hasn't been clear where to step in since the diversions have been short.

However, the Little Chute/no fall zones/when to step it up discussion belongs here IMHO: http://www.firsttracksonline.com/boards ... php?t=2603

Comments on Snowbird's 2008 closing and Utah backcountry options after that are now here: http://www.firsttracksonline.com/boards ... php?t=6872

I'm on a roll. Powder vertical discussion is now here: http://www.firsttracksonline.com/boards ... php?t=6878

And everybody's favorite :snowball fight: East vs. West, Round ??? here:

We were so close, yet so far. Down to 71.

However the Global Warming discussion might make it in the top 10, especially if you start merging the old discussions.

I guess it might be just under the Mt. Waterman and Snowcrest/Kratka Ridge thread.

I think merging the East/West discussions would produce the largest total.

Sorry I'm late on the count here. I usually don't really feel that a count is necessary or proves much, but I was curious about my ski days this season and did a tally.

Gore 8
Whiteface 4
Stowe 2
MRG 3
Pico 1
Jay 3
Snow Ridge 1
Alta 4
Snowbird 1
Powmow 1
Blue Mtn 1
Greek Peak 15
XC skiing, around 20+ days (many days I ski at Greek Peak I also XC ski, and I XC ski out my door nearly every day there is enough snow on the ground, and if my trails are done, I go up to the State Forest where the snow stays around a little longer.

So, in summary, about 45 days of lift served.

Just one day of earned turns, though I did get a number of side-country experiences that were more like lift-served backcountry.

Maybe 15 or so powder days, 4 of which were some of the deepest snow I've ever skied.

Half-dozen or so spring corn.

All in all, not a bad season. I might have done one more trip to Jay but I could not find traveling companions, and it turned out that it was one of the most crowded weekends of the season. Was then rewarded with 3 days on the slides at WF in prime spring corn conditions the following weekend.

Season Highlights:

1. Deepest snow ever for me in Utah (crotch to waist deep!)
2. Discovering Snow Ridge in deep snow, causing slide in 2nd run
3. WF slides
4. Early season deep snow at Jay Peak...3 powder days in a row!

That's okay, I believe that Admin hasn't given the breakdown of his season now that it's over.
That's because I was the one who posted his breakdown of 2006-07 last year:
Data
Area/Count of Area/Sum of Vertical/Sum of Powder
Alta 33 345.8 109
AltaBird 3 29.6 3
Altabird/Solitude 1 14 7
Brighton 1 9 0
Canyons 4 37.4 0
Park City 6 78.1 2
Powder Mt. 2 31.3 15
Snowbird 15 163.9 46
Solitude 8 54.6 7
Grand Total 73 763.7 189
Since Admin stopped using his Suunto watch this season, I'm no longer performing this service. [-(

I already told you Tony, I didn't really care about the vertical detail. I'm just curious of the breakdown of where he skied this season. :P

Finished up with 65. Would have been closer to 75 except for comittments to travel to east coast and CA. And, a slightly ruptured disc leading to nasty sciatic nerve pain.
