Patrick got last October at Landergraaf, Netherlands, reputedly the largest (though not tallest ) indoor ski area in the world. He was in Zermatt/Cervinia late November/early December. I expect upcoming July to be at Avila on Canada Day, which he has done 7x already.
Landergraaf compared to New Jersey. Caroline got bored after a few runs at Big Snow, that wasn't the case in Landergraaf. That being said, she truly hated her experience on the dry slope at Copenhill in Copenhagen. She didn't like the synthetic surface; it's definitely not the same experience as snow.
Avila has been an easy solution especially on difficult year health wise (2013, 2020 lockdown, 2022). I have also spent a lot of travel in the last few years.
The Avila experience has varied a few times. From climb for turns, to temporary rope-tow set up to changing spots and used the chairlift since at least 2022. Although I didn't go last year, the Akamp returned to their original location with a temporary tow.

Avila in June/July seious health issue)
2014: PNW (

2021: Alberta/BC 3 trips
2022: California, Australia
2023: Alberta/BC, California with injury with doc didn't want me to ski for 4-6 months. Well to

2025: Norway/Sweden 3wks, NZ 3 weeks, Europe 8 weeks

After I did my June turns a few days ago, I mentioned on where July was going to be, but likely start with Plan A: Alberta, Alps, Australia, Avila or Southern Alps,
Now we know why Patrick has posted nothing this season here, including his yearly eastern-closing summaries. He's not only boycotting travel in the U.S., but also U.S. ski forums!
Not related. I haven't really posted anything in the last few weeks in various ski forums even prior to Trump being elected. Trying to limit my screen time which I'm not entirely successful. Most of my attention has shifted to IG and shared in FB.
I didn't have much time to spend on Closing thread on the madpatski wordpress site; they have changed something and it isn't as straight forward and easy as it was before.
Well, I expect nothing less!
Instead of utilizing early storms at Whiteface for October turns, and Killington/Mt. Washington for some legitimate late-season fun, the streak will now require trips to Western Canada or Europe or.....
Trump is not going to be hurt by this defiance/boycott.
I know Trump doesn't care about nobodies like us.
I'm not the only Canadian not crossing the border. One person isn't making a difference, but the reduction number of Canadians and other international tourists isn't without impact. Just ask the Canadian boycott of the US spirits industry.
Why would I spend my money in a country where the leader says he doesn't need us and threaten and/or takes action about Canada and it's economy? The guy signs a contrat, but doesn't respect the deal he previously signed? I've made many trips to the US; I think it's time to skip what has been an easy solution and make other solutions.
About my skiing choices. I get paid to ski and make enough money to pay for a few trips overseas in that same year.
