Nice to see what I missed last week. Too bad the wind kept the lifts shut down last Monday morning.

I'm going to be in the Riverside area on business next week and will not be bringing my gear. Any recommendations on ski rentals? I would like some advanced skis, and am not confident in the ski resort's selection. I'm leaning towards Baldy now, but may end up at Mtn High since they have a 4hr...

Thats what 5000 feet of elevation will do for ya....and a small vertical. I happen to be going to the NC highcountry this weekend, so I'm going to try to hit the slopes if they're still open. The earliest I've skied in NC was Nov. 15 2003, so this is the earliest opening date I can remember. 8)

Yeah, I'm in DC metro as well. I got tommorow off work early last week when this storm starting showing up in the long range models. I don't want to drive any further than to Blue Knob, PA. Unfortunately, there might be a layer of ice on top of our powder down in central PA. Enjoy the crust...

thanks for the report. what ski club are you with? i'm taking a smaller church group there later this month; how were the crowds? i'm afraid whitetail will be a zoo on every weekend, but thats expected i guess.

it does seem kind of lame they aren't open yet with all the snow the u.p. has gotten recently

i didn't intend to compare them to killington by size, but by the fact that sugar is usually always the first to open. also, like woodbury, few people care that cataloochee is open :wink:

well, the ski season has begun in north carolina earlier than usual this year. the mountains have been making snow since wednesday afternoon. one small ski area actually is open today beating out the 'bigger' resorts. its our equivalent of woodbury beating out killington to open first a few...
