    Project 101: USA Road Trip

Au contraire! He was mildly impressed by it and wasn't expecting a ski area in New Jersey to be decent-sized (apples to apples for the northeast). He said conditions were nice -- as they were throughout the entire midwest and northeastern segments of his trip -- and it was a good conclusion.

    Project 101: USA Road Trip

I interviewed him last night while he was at the airport and we discussed some of the comments/critical observations made here. Will post next week.

    Europe 2025/26

I don't believe that it happened when I skied with Tony; however, I have vestibular/balance issues that make me freak out a bit with serious exposure where the conventional wisdom for most people is "keep your eyes on the path in front of you; don't look to the side at the thousand verts below...

Midnight Oil and Other Oz Music

I suppose we can use this thread as a catch-all for Aussie popular culture, not just music. I'm curious what @Sbooker thinks about the TV series "Fisk," which my wife and I have been bingeing on Netflix. We find it hysterically funny, especially lead actor/showrunner Kitty Flanagan, and are...

Nice piece. Glad to be able to read about it because I wouldn't do well with a bootpack descent like that.

Takes us back to this talking point. As ugly as "hoagie" is, it's better than "grinder" (New England).

    Shawnee, PA: 02/04/26 with worldskitraveller

Today is worldskitraveller's 41st consecutive day of skiing (along with a fair bit of driving)! :icon-eek: As part of his introduction to Pennsylvania, I underscored the importance of the Wawa convenience store chain to the mid-Atlantic region (if I'd met him in my native Central New York, he...

    Shawnee, PA: 02/04/26 with worldskitraveller

As his 2026 North America tour winds down, worldskitraveller let me know that he'd be in the Poconos today. Even though I'd just returned from Denver late yesterday, I couldn't pass up the opportunity and scooted over to Shawnee for opening bell to join him on his first-ever ski day in...

    Japan 2026

Tony and I had the "daily driver" discussion while at Serre Chevalier during a snow drought. I told him that his mid-90s didn't make sense for me when you're skiing mostly onpiste hardpack or offpiste with a bit of loose snow. People always swear that their mid-90s "are easy to get on edge" but...

    Loveland, CO: 02/01/26

I saw racers on the trail alongside the lift and gates set up on the closed parallel trail, but didn't put 2 and 2 together until I noticed that conditions on the Basin side were noticeably better. A few pix from yesterday -- a long stretch of bumps along the Ptarmigan lift. Experts were...

Given all the powder reports that have been posted over the last few weeks from Japan, Switzerland, and New York, this report may be somewhat exotic. With only 92 inches YTD, all of the upper-mountain black terrain along with everything over the Eisenhower Tunnel was closed leaving 540 open...

    Project 101: USA Road Trip

Seriously, what are you two going to do with yourselves after he finishes his tour? While I don't deny most of the points you're making about leaving so much on the table, I appreciate getting brief overviews and photos of many small northeastern ski mountains and molehills (in good to very good...

    Japan 2026

Liz is the one who never refuses a photo op next to one of them; however, she always has Tony around to snap a shot while I'm usually alone and don't want to bother anyone with "could you please take my picture?" He says with derision -- look at who's become a powder snob! I'd never look down...

    Europe 2025/26

More Innsbruck photos have been posted on Alpinfans and it appears that the snow drought there is over. With only two Indy Pass days for all of the "city" ski areas, I'll have to go into worldskitraveller mode to see most of them or purchase a third day for 25% off, which comes to a reasonable...

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

I wasn't reporting; I copy/pasted a photo with snow stats from Instagram. Stand by -- late next week, I'll have something interesting to post from the northeast. :smileyvault-stirthepot:
