10/29/2005: Jay Peak, VT ----> Heavenly! (edit: w/ pics)

This was the best snow in the early season i've seen in my life! I rode on Oct 10th in 18in of snow at Jay maybe 5 years ago... I rode in St-Sauveur on man made snow in late October also... But never was it this good!

Coverage is perfect all over the mountain... I even hiked up the face... can you imagine how sweet it was after climbing to the bottom of the face... lookin down at fresh OCTOBER powder!

We made a video, right now it's 32meg... I'll reduce it a bit and post it here... it's on Zoneski.com somewhere if you really want it...

Get out there while there is snow because it is really worth it!

We climbed on the Jet, rode down the Montrealer and Northway. Climbed on the Northway to the bottom of the face rocks, then made our way to Can-Am and Lift Line. The ride was amazing... I'll have lots of pictures to come tomorrow...

Report:

Jay Peak were calling for 32in of snow in one week... but only 15 min away from there, we were wondering if it was true!

Everything changed once we started climbing the 242.

Splendid view from the Jet Triple summit!

Of course, we had to publicize that we were there!

We found a big booter coming from the Green Beret:

By the way, there was a lot of snow!

Bluebird skies... different for Jay!

This is kind of a "Where's Waldo" pic... I was climbing the face in 3-4feet of loose powder... even with the snowshoes it was hard! But it was heavenly going down in virgin powder!

Now, on top of Can-Am where the snow was really promissing:

By far the best season's opener!

This thread is getting the most views but the less action... Guess i won't post next time!

I suspect that because the post was edited to add photos, rather than as a follow-up post, most of us regulars didn't realize that it was edited. I didn't see them until now, and now I'm just speechless.

Upper-Upper Liftline looks better than I've seen it mid-season in some years!

8) :D

Nice photos you got there. Looks like there was some good skiing to be found up there. How was it below the face chutes?

 sorry.

I was just too busy talking and bitching about Wildcat and Killington to actually reply.

I do look and appreciate it (same on zoneski). I actually didn't even look at most videos in the last week, too busy + being in a one computer family. But I will, just ask Jonny about his Mammoth video, it took me maybe 5 months before actually getting to look at it.

Keep up the good work. :D

It was amazing! I climbed all the way to the big rocks on the right of the pic. I found some really deep stuff all the way down... really felt bottomless... It felt more like the west coast cause the snow had time to settle down a bit... Normally, you don't find snow that good on open spaces like this at Jay... after just a couple of hours, everything is skied out!

Great pictures, Lets face it those of us that didn't make it out (myself included) are just plain old envious. No doubt we missed out on a historic October snowfall that will probably be talked about for years.

WOW  very nice! excellent action shots, the slide through the leaves shot is what this past week has been all about, just crazy awesome skiing on leaves!

thanks for the update and please keep on bringing us the goods from either side of the boarder, very much appreciated. i will echo what marc said, if you add pics and video, it is better to post as a reply rather than edit because regular viewers won't know you added pics or vid unless a reply bumps the thread to the top. great job at jay! =D>

Wow...Looks awesome. Definetly a bit better conditions then we skiied here in the dacks on saturday. The face looks better in that pic then when I was there last march. I'm envious

Nice job BigJay! I'm particularly impressed with the photo of the Face. I think there's more snow in there than the last time I skied the chutes a few years ago.

Amazing for October!

OMG! Why did I have to be so responsible and keep my obligations for that weekend?
I feel like I missed out on history. Simply mindboggling to think that a record for 24hr snowfall on MW that stood since 1969 was broken on 10/17/05 and was broken again just 8 days later! The best part is that it's sticking around up high :D .
I have a friend who skied the Sherburne with his son last sunday 10/30 and he said it was unreal! First time his kid has skied it(12y/o) and he had a blast. I cant wait till I share the same expierince with my son.
Great pics and editing on your movie, BigJay! Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the feedback...

Unfortunately, the video has been removed from my club's website... we have an 8gig bandwith per month account... and since Nov 1st, we already hit 16gig of bandwith... We're shopping around for a new provider... If anyone wants to host the video, go ahead! Put a link for it... I'm probably going to make it smaller in resolution and frame rate... less quality but overall still good...

Might go riding again this week-end and sample what's left from this storm... WHo knows!
