"Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes...Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared."

-Anne Frank "The Diary of a Young Girl"

My cold-weather ski mitts are stained with candle wax from attending outdoor vigils.

If congress and/or the federal courts don’t stop DHS’s flagrant constitutional violations at the cost of loss of life and liberty very soon, the republic will end. It’s that simple.

Also, Bovino’s SS cosplay is deeply offensive, but that’s the point isn’t it?

This column was written before people working for our president killed another American in Minneapolis and then lied about it again.

The multiple shots being fired at the slain protestors is ridiculous and an egregious overkill, an egregious use of force.
  • Pont blank-ange shots through a windshield, and driver's side window? While filming with a phone?
  • Ten times while lying face-down? No gun was threatening; it was a phone. And the victim was shot after being disarmed?

We see David Brooks a lot on PBS Friday nights. In general he's not a hot take alarmist. So that column deserves to be taken seriously.

These are the times that try men's souls
Let it be told to the future world, that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive, that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, come forth to meet and to repulse it.

-Thomas Paine

10s of thousands out in the streets again today at 9°F with a stiff wind: “Who’s streets? Our streets!”

The protesters skew noticeably younger than the No Kings protests in the spring and fall. Much angrier too, although the protest and march was super peaceful with no law-enforcement in sight.

These military interventions invoke mixed feelings in me. This coming from a hawkish person who spent a career working for Dept of Defense. I saw the first Iraq war (with Colin Powell) as a big success. The second Iraq War had a much more difficult aftermath. We seemed to have come out of the Venezuela thing smelling like a rose? Time will tell. This latest Iran action is pretty aggressive by any accounts. I hope it goes well, not that I was rattling my saber beforehand. But I do think that a nuclear armed Iran would have been a very scary situation.

Trump 2.0 is far more inclined to use the military than in the first term, which is what prompted my quote a year ago.

The jury is out on both Iran and Venezuela. Remember Colin Powell's quote, "if you break it, you own it."

Venezuela should have high odds of success because there is a government in exile than won a recent election. But that situation hits too close to home for Trump (incumbent stealing an election) so he's not willing to support that obvious solution.

Iran is anybody's guess. There's a valid argument that almost anything new in Iran would be an improvement. But it's far from obvious that the theocracy will fall. There would have been a better chance if this had happened coincident with the protests instead of after they were suppressed.

"⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛, one of the most evil people in History, is ⬛⬛⬛⬛".

Venezuela, Greenland, how about I simplify? If a playground bully can't figure out who the enemies are, then there's prolly only one enemy.
This Fascist bastard obviously skipped history class..he needs to see how the Italians handled mr Mussolini
