When someone's life just falls apart, things tend to get out of hand. Like Epstein, suicide. Good thing he didn't have silo codes, right?
Anybody remember Nixon's downfall? Everything seem to be working and then it was revealed that he had tapes. America figured that's okay there's prolly some logical explanation...until he refused to release the tapes then it was game over.
What is the downfall worst-case scenario today, when we already saw on live TV what happened in 2021?

For more traditional conservatives like jimk, it will be interesting to see what particular issue changes their minds. As I mentioned long ago in this thread, I was somewhat of an outlier among lifelong Republicans, bailing in 2010 in response to the over-the-top reaction of the GOP to what struck me as a somewhat moderate Obama. I can also mention that most of the conservative intelligentsia my generation read frequently (George Will, Bill Kristol, P.J. O'Rourke, Max Boot, Bret Stephens, David Brooks, etc.) became Never Trumpers even if they had been GOP loyal up to 2015. The same applies to those GOP campaign operatives (Steve Schmidt, Rick Wilson, Mike Madrid) who founded the Lincoln Project.

Drove into downtown Wash DC twice in the last three days. Marked reduction in visible street people. My wife and I were loving it! This is a view in a nice part of town a couple blocks from the Kennedy Center (white building in background) and less than one mile west of the White House. All the medians and green spaces in this area used to be littered with tents, tarps, carts, trash, and dozens of street people much of the time. All that is gone now, except for this one obviously homeless guy still hanging around. I have sympathy for the unhoused, but letting large numbers of them roam around our cities to fend for themselves while sporadically receiving public assistance to sustain their street lifestyle is not the answer.

Yes, thank you, that's what I meant to ask. How do voters fall for cult leaders? Their life is not going well, that's a given.
Pragmatically, if those around us make such potentially dangerous decisions, shall we presume they make dangerous decisions just once every four years? Or is that their new life? Give them plenty of room out there on the roadways. Keep them in front at all times, on the descent...

I think the Democrats 2016/18 can just run on 'getting rid' of the tariffs—a tax. Price increases should hit in the next 12 months. Tie it to billionaire tax cuts.
However, the Dems need to improve their image - the most important thing is NOT trans teens playing sports, diversity for diversity's sake, and Defund the police. F-ing insanity.
And I always thought that in the Biden Era, he should have issued many executive orders to close the borders. No one wants uncontrolled immigration, and the fact that he gave Kamala Harris the title of 'Border Czar' - what a joke. Even when he named her that - me: he wants her to fail.
Anyways, back to taxes.....
Essentially, anyone online or with an e-commerce side hustle will see a 100% increase in costs. It should get every Influencer away from Trump - to sell all their merch. They are not partisan - but just like money.
There are reasons why Steve Forbes's proposal to abolish the income tax in favor of a sales tax did not work.

Just to show you how hard it is to reach a consensus on anything in a free society - as a conservative one of the few things I'm most sympathetic about with Democrats is a humane, orderly, and comprehensive approach to immigration Without immigrants our country is going down the tubes in a few decades. I have two son in laws with recent immigrant backgrounds and both are highly intelligent and successful Americans.

There is one problem in that sentence. Democrats still have no idea how and I'm pretty sure simply don't want anything resembling Orderly when it comes to immigration. And of course Trump/current republicans want nothing to do with anything resembling Humane or Comprehensive when it comes to immigration.
Give it 2-3 years and the roles may become entirely flipped between sides as it has on so many other topics. Nothing better than the true in-your-face hypocrisy from both sides in US politics in recent years. If I flip my position 180 because you now have power and I can prevent you from getting a 'win' then neither side has a problem with flip flopping. It's insane (end rant).
That said I agree that economics alone will dictate that more immigration occurs again starting a couple years from now (One would hope for logically, humanely, comprehensively and especially orderly). Or, if not, the entire country will have decided that we want stagnation or worse as our long term economic outcome.
