amazing things happen in threes and yesterday was no exception.

trilogy part 1
fred, rob and i drove up the auto road at 8 am to rain in the valley and clear with sunny breaks 4800 vert up in the east snowfields of mount washington. the snow was smooth perfect corn free of tracks awaiting our signatures. each lap was 530 vert on about a 35 degree hero canvass for 7 laps of fun, 4 in the clear and 3 in the fog. got outta there around one and headed home in the valley rain to the sunny seacoast.

trilogy part 2
got home at 4pm, graabbed the mountain bike and surfboard and out the door i go for an afternoon ride on some of the twistiest, rockiest but, flowing singletrack in the seacoast area at fort rock in exeter. got a good sweat in and had a blast.

trilogy part 3-the completion
left fort rock and drove 15 minutes to the wall at hampton beach and paddled out for a sunny beautiful longboard session with only 1 other guy out. the water and setting sun were sight to see and after a bunch of waves i got back to the car feeling quite complete froma fantastic day doing the 3 sports that take up most of my free time all in one perfect new hampshire day.

who knows, maybe i'll do another trilogy next week.
pics soon i hope
live free or die, pedal/surf/ski the east

Adam would like to see icelantic try that on a powder day in January  .

On a powder day I'd just stay on the hill and ski all day.

Nice report Iceman.

While living out west, I heard that old bromide over and over... "you can ski in the morning, golf in the afternoon, and mountain bike in the evening" or some variant thereof. I never understood why you'd want to do that, other than the "feat" aspect of it. And I still don't. Seems like a lot of scurrying about.

Regardless, nice photos.

Moving forward, can you resize them so they're 640 x 480? You're not doing them justice.

See I think what happens is that... folks are amazed by the convenience and all around awesomeness of having all those different great sports so close together, geographically. And it is amazing. And convenient. But THAT doesn't mean you HAVE to do it all in one day.

IMO...it's not the greenest method.

I doubt I'd often do the long drive in the middle aspect like in this TR. But have coached a number of ski racing camps where you ski 7a-1p, lunch, then hike, mtn bike, rollerblade, soccer, dryland, etc... in the afternoon - all in a 10 minute or so drive of the base of the ski area... Actually it's lots of fun getting a multisport day in like that. Plus you'll get into real good shape in a hurry doing that multiple days in a row.

Nice getting surfing into that mix icelantic. Not an option out here in the interior mtn west.

Exactly. What skier wants to go mountain biking or surfing in the winter? Especially on a powder day. Plenty of time for that stuff during the spring, summer, and winter. While that might not be possible in the dead of winter in New England, it is possible more often than any interior skiing destination by default. As a four season location, there are few places that rival the diversity of recreational applications year round except perhaps the actual west coast. And while Tony's LA certainly makes doing a skiing, biking, and surfing outing in December possible, that is a heck of a lot of driving to get to good terrain if you were actually inclined to not ski the entire day.

Way to go, Rog. Too many activities for one day for me, but I am quickly diversifying my outdoor fun this summer in many new directions that I had not participated in before.

not much scurrying at all, in fact, i don't think skiing, mtbing and surfing all in one day with a total of 230 miles/ half tank in the honda is much at all. 4 hours of skiing till the weather moved in and then it wwas time to head home anyway where the other two sports are within 15 minutes in total. most folks on this forum drive alot farther one way to do just one sport in mediocre conditions on a weekend no less.

i've tried reducing the pics but it didn't work.

I did 875km last Sunday.

What to go Rog!!! You're not alone.

I remember people skiing at Gray Rocks in May during the early 80s and windsurfing in lac Ouimet 30 feet from the liftline. Plus, I'm not even talking about the people golfing on that same day less than one mile down the road. A few of those people would start skiing in the morning and do another sport after lunch when the soft got really corny.

I remember Lucky Luke bringing his mountain bike at Kmart for June 1st. Skied a few hours then biked.

Even Glen Plake has done it. On July 1st 2006, after a day of skiing at Mammoth, Glen was waiting for his family at the bottom of the hill. They were going waterskiing, his daughter really wanted to go these two sports on the same day.

So you see Rog, you like Glen Plake, except probably greener cuz waterskiing isn't really green. :D

Ok if it was 10 minutes I'd do it too. But still...not on a powder day.

:D

Last January 26 Adam had to leave Baldy ~12:30 since Molly had to be back in San Diego by 3PM. Adam was merely making good use of the rest of his day. I'm sure he would have stayed at Baldy otherwise. And maybe gone surfing the next day  . Total driving for Adam Jan. 26 was similar to icelantic's 230 miles.

Most of these multisport weekends do work better one each day. Like Memorial weekend 2007:
Saturday ski Mammoth.
Sunday hike down the river to Tuolumne Falls from the Tioga road.
Monday whitewater raft Class V Cherry Creek.

I dunno...Patrick raised a good point. More than once I've gone up to Snowbird in the morning, then left when the daytime heating left the spring snow unsupportable to spend the afternoon road biking in the Valley. Those were great days.

The Sunday/Monday activities of that Memorial weekend were all day events. But in or near Mammoth after skiing a late spring morning you can hike, bike, fish, golf or like Plake drive a bit out of town to water ski. July 3, 1993 was another noteworthy day at Mammoth because the front side of the mountain still had 5-6 feet of snow for skiing, yet in the afternoon of the same day Adam and I went back up the gondola and rode mountain bikes (very slowly) off the backside where the snow had completely melted off.

To each his/her own.

I'm still shocked to learn (in another thread) that Patrick likes the lameoid 80s group The Cure.

good point indeed. why would i stay on mount washington after 4 hours of good skiing to stay after the rain moved in,(trust me, if the vis had remained clear i'da stayed all day and done another 7 laps cuz the snow was so good), than to leave, drive a mere 100 miles to ride a bike and surf on the sunny seacoast where i live anyway. no need for more than 1 day to do all things and i didn't even have to rush.

You would be surprised how my musical taste is diversified, like my skiing. One of the only things not included in my musical/skiing taste is the commercialised middle-of-the-road crap à laCéline Dion/Mont St-Sauveur.

I know that a few here on liftline share some of my taste in skiing/music.

I once ate in a Nickels Restaurant in the Laurentides. How's that for diversified?
