To give a very brief summary of some Euro skiing:
Stayed in the Western Alps after Engelberg
Gstaad - Skied 4 areas in one day. Overall, really liked it, not crowded, one of the best lower elevation ski resorts. Most similar to Colorado:
- Eggli/La Videmanette
- Wispile
- Wasserngrat
- Rinderberg/Saanerslochgrat/Horneggli
Les Contamines (AM) & Megeve (PM) - Same ticket. Les Contamines is likely the best all-around mountain in Chamonix since it faces N/S/E/W.
La Grave - Excellent-to-too much snow. Great skiing, but missed some great lines due to safety. Doesn't matter much in such an iconic area.
Les Arcs (AM) & Ste. Foy (PM).
- Les Arcs. Bought a 4-hour ticket and skied Villaroger (new gondola and Arcs 2000 and 7k vertical runs).
- Ste. Foy. I wanted to like this place so much, but it was a bit awkward: parking, lift tickets, chalet/condo development, heavily regulated off-piste, and the best lift is an old fixed-grip. Still very good
Val d'Isere/Tignes. Just always dependably excellent. Some new, some favorites.
La Clusaz. Likely a (the?) new favorite in the Geneva-Chamonix region. Stormy day with heavier snow, almost Northwest USA-like, but 3 major sectors/areas with great terrain. Still reasonably priced, authentic, and great terrain.
