In my opinion, the best way to get reliable early season skiing at Killington is to upload/download on the Snowdon triple and temporarily relocate the handle tow from the learning area to run the 500 feet between the Great Northern wrap-around and the Snowdon triple. You'd have to slightly widen the Killink connecting trail. I walk up that little section all the time in late-April/early May when they stop running the Snowdon lifts.
When they eventually replace one of the Snowdon lifts with a high speed lift, they can get one with enough braking capacity to run it at full speed. The bubble quad at the bottom of Blackcomb works that way.
