Day 67: An inch and a half of water weight, resulting in 6-8 inches of sludge settled into an inch and a half of toothpaste.

Mix in zero visibility for most of Little Cloud, drizzle at the base, snow on the lower mountain that has all but disappeared after a melt rate of 8 inches a day this week, and patrol's concern about wet slides and I'm done for the season now.

Jon, Dale and I headed up today. We were seemingly the only ones there this morning.

Dale caught the 8:20 tram. Jon and I just missed it, having to wait for the 8:40 which was still ridiculously empty.

Dale was skiing Little Cloud as we were loading and his text message said it all:

You may not want to do this

In fact, by the time we got to Hidden Peak there was already a steady stream of folks hiking back up to the Tram to ride down...including Dale.

We turned Dale around to ski out one run to the base. Road to Provo/Mark Malou was ungroomed and not recommended per the Patrol sign at the top of Little Cloud, so we headed over to Regulator. Groomed two cats wide, you more or less had to stick to the groomed for the new snow was...<ahem>..."thick."

Cover began to thin quickly as we got toward Mid-Gad.

By the time we hit Bass Highway it was non-existent in places.

Still, some creative routefinding meant that we only had to dismount once for 25 feet all the way to the base.

And so ends a 7-month ski season. On to other things for the summer now. We're already plotting a possible trip for next weekend.

Given the date, weather forecast, meteorologic conditions this morning, web cams showing pea soup, and a drenched tram plaza, did you actually expect anything different? :-k

Nope.

We actually had a really good time today, found some good snow. We actually had decent light twice through out the morning. We got on the 9 am tram and left right around 11:30. When we left it was actually raining half way up little cloud, so we decided to call it. Had it been snowing we would have hung around for a bit more.

Here are some pictures from the morning.

In the process of making a video that I'll post once this game is over.

Go USA even if their D looks like swiss cheese.

I realize surfaces were unpleasant today, but from a coverage standpoint doesn't Little Cloud have plenty of snow left? I'm sure it would be worth skiing once it clears for a few days and that sludge settles.

1) "A few days" from now Snowbird will be closed for the season.

2) Even Little Cloud has huge bare areas that were well covered 6 days ago.

3) Screw it, I'm done. Summer activities await.

Just checking that there was at least some sense of reality! My wife was chatting with the wife of one of your merry band and she used the term "excited", so was just wondering if one of you was expecting powder. :stir:

Actually, officially closed for the season as of 5 minutes ago.

Whether they will allow skis aboard a sightseeing tram for the extra $10 and waiver as they have in other seasons remains to be seen.
