Day 67: An inch and a half of water weight, resulting in 6-8 inches of sludge settled into an inch and a half of toothpaste.
Mix in zero visibility for most of Little Cloud, drizzle at the base, snow on the lower mountain that has all but disappeared after a melt rate of 8 inches a day this week, and patrol's concern about wet slides and I'm done for the season now.
Jon, Dale and I headed up today. We were seemingly the only ones there this morning.
Dale caught the 8:20 tram. Jon and I just missed it, having to wait for the 8:40 which was still ridiculously empty.
Dale was skiing Little Cloud as we were loading and his text message said it all:
In fact, by the time we got to Hidden Peak there was already a steady stream of folks hiking back up to the Tram to ride down...including Dale.
We turned Dale around to ski out one run to the base. Road to Provo/Mark Malou was ungroomed and not recommended per the Patrol sign at the top of Little Cloud, so we headed over to Regulator. Groomed two cats wide, you more or less had to stick to the groomed for the new snow was...<ahem>..."thick."
Cover began to thin quickly as we got toward Mid-Gad.
By the time we hit Bass Highway it was non-existent in places.
Still, some creative routefinding meant that we only had to dismount once for 25 feet all the way to the base.
And so ends a 7-month ski season. On to other things for the summer now. We're already plotting a possible trip for next weekend.
