Tuesday/Wednesday Storm
the media will get you everytime..i don't think this forecast is coming true
Anywhere pick up more than 4 or 5 inches officially? Most I've found is 6" at Mount Snow and 5" at Hunter.

Yea, looking ugly for alot of New England. Heavy rain right now in Western Mass on top of about 3 inches of snow that we received last night. Hard to believe considering it was 5 degrees yesterday morning. Just proves these big storms can bring up alot of warm air with them.

Jason - what do you make of the current radar?

Looks like the cold air is moving in the right direction.

Kmart "reporting" snow at 28F, from the pink zone.

cold air is moving in, but by the time it gets here the event is mostly over.. this all very depressing..
this weekends event looks warmer and wetter than the current event. this a bad chain of events..

Sorry to brighten the dread but no mix whatsoever here. 6-8" on the ground since last night and the heaviest snow of the day happening right now (12:12pm). Just need to make it through the next several hours. More later.

From reports and radar, looks like Gore is getting some sleet, but mixed with snow. I'll take it.

i guess you peaked at the 12z gfs.. possible the ugliest run i have seen in a long time

Yep. I thought I was the only nut who checks that stuff out. The GFS looks bad, but what worries me is that there are multiple weather sites that are agreeing with that forecast; predicting a major rain event for monday, reaching all the way up north of the border.

Well, I picked the wrong places to ski today if Jay is reporting in at 2pm with no mixing of any kind and 9" but I played it safe. Given snow fall predictions and my desire to get to Cannon ASAP, I tried them first and got the wind hold notification. Figured Jay would be under a similar advisory (must have been in the AM for sure) and it was already 8:30am with crappy roads, so I took the Burke option. Normally a safe bet, but forecasters were WAY off on this one AGAIN. I think Tim Kelly on NECN called for 12"+ in the spread between Laconia through the boarder. We had over half a foot on Plymouth, the notch got about that much but the wind blew it halfway across New England, and Burke scored somewhere in the 4+ range. And then at 10a it started mixing at Burke and 11a started flat out raining, which it did all the way home down 93 even in the notch. A net gain for sure, but look for this stuff to freeze up. Base building, baby! No regrets on the blown decision, it was the safe and prudent thing to do not to roll the dice on a Jay wind hold. Jay, Mansfield, and Smuggs may be the only three ski areas to escape without rain but this one isn't over yet, let's hope!!

This sort of thing is the exact reason that I packed up and moved 2,000 miles across the country to Utah last year. I just couldn't deal with variable, inconsistent conditions anymore. Why would I stay in the east if I can ski the World's Greatest Snow every day? Once I made the decision, I never looked back.

Oh sorry, I was channeling voices again.

From what I can tell, Whiteface had 3-5", I think almost all snow. They've had deluxe conditions for at least the last week or so..they should be in good shape, for now.

Gore looks to have had 6-8" snow, sleet, but little or no rain or Frz rn.

Wind howled this am--Tram, Flyer and Bonnie all on hold. Bonnie came on-line by 10:30 but Flyer/Tram stayed down. Imagining nice stuff up there Thurs...

It snowed lightly from the midstation up all day at Whiteface and there was no wind to speak of. A bit of light drizzle at the base (despite the fact that it was snowing a mile up the road in the notch). Great conditions.

how'd last year work out for ya in utah, looks like you just missed two of the best new england winters in a long time. 10 inches with no mix till 2pm at the river today, no wind and light crowds. if ya don't like the conditions in new england, drive an hour and the rewards could be big.
