Killington Confirms May 15 Closing Date

Anyone have any idea what the marginal cost of K staying open an extra day is? I think it's likely to be pretty low. I remember that a few years ago (during the Great Winter) MRG was in great skiing shape into mid-April. They said that it costs them $500/day to be open so as long as they got...

sugarloaf, me, wildcat , nh, killington vt-4-20/21

 Getting a little nasty around here. Seriously folks, why not lay off each other a bit? I certainly am happy that joe continues to post here...obviously he likes to rant but we all know this so if you read a post from him you know what to expect. I've enjoyed the rants myself...

    research on skiing

I have to agree enthusiastically on one point: Sushi bars at ski areas are lame. Anyone who eats at a sushi bar at a ski area is lame. Seriously, I really like sushi, but if you can sit and eat something as dainty as sushi after a day of skiing, you shouldn't call what you did skiing.

    Tucks 4/17/05

Well, I needed a little warmup for running the marathon this morning . j/k. Actually my legs were telling me how out of shape I was by the end of the day...just too stubborn to stop. This morning though I couldn't even walk up the stairs to my office!

Jay, VT, 4/16/05 -- epic powder day!!! 3 ft of untracked!

Jay on Saturday was absolutely epic...3 ft of untracked powder and face shots galore... oops, sorry. Was just translating my report into jay peak snow-report format. Here's the original report: Jay on Saturday was quite a blast. Beautiful weather and beautiful corn in lots of spots. A few...

    Tucks 4/17/05

Sounds from the reports like I missed quite an interesting day at Tucks on Saturday, but I can't say that I'm too sorry. Went to Jay on Saturday and then Tucks on Sunday to avoid crowds. Tucks was fantastic and I actually had a remarkably solitary day, at least by Tucks standards. Got up to...

    Killington Closing Date

I wonder if Killington having an earlier closing day has anything to do with the cheap season passes. Makes sense to me that the former follows from the latter. They're not making money from day tickets in May -- it's basically only passholders. So the only reason to stay open that late is...

Will need passport to cross the US-Canada border in 2007-8.

I agree absolutely. This isn't something new or changed by this particular policy -- it's been bad that way since 9/11. I'm in grad school in the sciences, so I have a number of foreign friends who are physicists and molecular biologists. When they hear that at the border it can be a...

Will need passport to cross the US-Canada border in 2007-8.

I'm sure that some people will be deterred by this, but personally I can't see the big deal. A passport is not particularly difficult or expensive to get -- we're talking about something like $50 if I remember right -- and it's valid for 10 years. Worth getting even if it's not required, just...

    What happened to Frankentour

Glad that you're still around. I have faith that for you at least the ski season is barely underway. I'm sick enough to enjoy your reports of hiking all morning for a few runs on 200' of rotten snow (or my personal favorite, the tank-tread-like grass skis), even if I'm not quite sick enough to...

    Cannon, NH, 3/24/05

Was going to ski MRG today but changed plans bc I wanted to show my brother what a snowboarder looked like. He's just learning to ski and so far had only skied MRG --- which actually turns out to be a great place to learn (when you're the only beginner there, you can get private lessons at the...

    Mad River Glen, VT 3/20-23/05

I'm up at MRG for the whole week and it's great skiing. Skied sunday, monday, and tuesdsay in identical warm (highs in low 40s) sunny days. The freeze-thaw cycle is in full force --- the snow sets up a bit at night but the first three days the sun and warm temps softened it up quite nicely...

Yep, definitely too cheap. But I'd be delighted to oblige you with some pictures next time -- just mail me a camera and I'm happy to deliver :) .

    Mad River Glen, VT 3/3-4/05

Back to MRG on short notice on thursday...wish I could have been there tuesday and wednesday but work interfered. But it was fantastic thursday and friday as well. Not really much to say other than stellar conditions everywhere -- the runs were in great shape with nice soft packed powder...

    Mad River Glen, VT 2/26-27/05

Another MRG trail report -- was there this weekend as well. Saturday got up early enough to be in line when they opened the lift. Began the day on chute/glade which were both quite good. Skiied a few other on-piste runs that day and was generally impressed with conditions (though I haven't...

    Mad River Glen VT, 2/26-2/27

I think I might have seen you on this run -- I was above someone running a sled down Creamery on Sunday morning in any event. I didn't see who it was as I was a ways above, but if it was you, you looked fantastic. I have enough trouble looking good on creamery without a sled -- I don't even...

Anyone skiing at MRG this weekend?

Oh, and I already have a pass, so I'm no help on the 2fer coupon. But would be happy to ski woods with you if we're there a common day -- let me know when you do decide to go up.

Anyone skiing at MRG this weekend?

I think the "be able to ski woods" is to ensure that they are at least skilled enough to ski with NHPowder. But I agree -- being much worse than one's partner is even less pleasant than being much better (same frustrations, but you don't even get to compliment yourself on your skill), but...

Anyone skiing at MRG this weekend?

Sorry that I'll miss you...it sounds like you may get some fresh snow. I might have to come back up later in the week but unfortunately I have to be at work monday-wednesday.

Anyone skiing at MRG this weekend?

I'm going to be up at MRG this weekend without my usual ski friends. If anyone else is going to be up there and wants to meet up, I'd definitely appreciate someone to enjoy the woods with (and I'm happy to share what little I know about the woods there with a fellow FTOer). I don't have a...
