    Alta/Snowbird, UT, Jan. 27, 2015

Tony, Thanks for the reports, and thanks for telling it like it is. I'm going with a friend to Aspen/Snowmass(Feb. 9,10), then SLC (2/11-2/15), then Jackson Hole (2/17,2/18). The 8-14 day forecast isn't promising at this point, but I'm praying that some storms will come through soon. -Roy

Thanks for making the effort to shoot pictures and post them, despite stormy conditions. They really illustrate the excellent conditions well, and add to the vicarious enjoyment for those of us not able to be there (I took a 3 1/2 hour bike ride today with friends I'm visiting in Florida, so...

Proposed San Gabriel Mountains National Monument

Feedback to the appropriate government leaders can help stop this misguided proposal. I received the email below from Robby Ellingson, General Manager of Mt. Baldy Ski Lifts with details and points of contact: National Monument Proposal Threatens Access As stewards of the 700 acres...

    Powder Mountain Development Plan

Any guesses on how this will impact Powder Mountain? Hopefully it won't change the things that make PM special, namely low skier density and powder galore, even days after a storm. Seems like an unusual ownership group for a ski area.

Mt. Baldy, CA Road Bike Ride

It has been 2 years since I've skied at Mt. Baldy, due to 2 bad winters in So. CA. On Saturday I was in Claremont at Harvey Mudd College (Admitted Students Weekend for my daughter). Since I knew I had free time in the afternoon, I brought my road bike along and rode up to the Mt. Baldy parking...

SLC, 2/8-2/11/2014 (Solitude, Snow Basin, Powder Mountain)

From what Evren says, Snow Basin is a better bet on weekdays than weekends, even moreso that the areas south of SLC, since most of the SB patrons are locals. There were virtually no lines on Monday, except for sometimes a 1 tram wait for the Mt. Allen Tram in the morning. The weather, snow...

SLC, 2/8-2/11/2014 (Solitude, Snow Basin, Powder Mountain)

(I apologize for the mixed up post- I don't do this enough) Snow Basin, 2/8/2014 Only beginner Lift was open at 9:00, with more to open at 9:45. Wind was high, though, and Snow Basin decided to close for the day. We got weather vouchers and headed back down for lunch. Solitude 2/9/2014 Road...

Will Snowbasin be decent on Sat.?

I had almost the same day. Rather disappointing. Any opinions on what tomorrow will be like? I have weather voucher for another day at SB, although I have until Wednesday to use it. With this warmer storm, will conditions be better in LCC?

Will Snowbasin be decent on Sat.?

I'm flying into SLC tonight, staying in Fruit Heights until Wed. Wondering how SB may fare with warmer storm.

    Alta

I've had cold toe problems on warmer days than that. Last year I added some mylar liners to the outside of the boot liners (inside the shells), following the instructions on this page: http://folk.uio.no/joakimt/skiboot/ Probably not as warm as heated boots, but it did help noticeably. If you...

Beautiful pictures, Tony. Thanks for sharing. I'll have to get to Yellowstone one of these summers.

Hiking to Dog Lake, Wasatch Mountains, UT 7/13/2013

Beautiful flower and rainbow pics in an awesome alpine setting. Jake appeared to enjoy Dog Lake, too. How were the bugs?

    Sublime Snowbasin

Evren, Thanks for the report and pics. Snowbasin can be really special when you catch it on the right day, which I've done 2 of 3 times now. Marc, Thanks for bringing up legit. points, agreeing where appropriate, and keeping it civil. I for one appreciate the measured response. This kind of...

Thanks for the post. Looks like you found some decent conditions, which hasn't been so easy this season.

Great shots of some impressive terrain! What kind of camera/lens was Corey using? I have a DSLR, but it never makes it to the slopes because I'm concerned about damaging it and possibly myself if I fall on it. That looks like some hairy terrain to be toting a DSLR into. I'm wondering if Corey...

Report from Steamboat - Early February 2013

Thanks for posting your report. It looked almost as if you had reserved the whole mountain, as you were the only one visible in a lot of those clips.

    Snow Ridge NY

Thanks for the TR. Brought back memories, as I spent my first full year skiing at Snow Ridge as a senior in high school. I skied there with my school ski team several nights a week, plus some weekends. It was a great place to learn, especially surrounded by the good skiers on the team.

20130207 Deer Valley via Quick Start: My friend and I decided to take the advice of this forum and start at Deer Valley. We enjoyed it. It was sunny, but cool and windy. The groomers were decent, though a little hard. I eventually got to some powder in the trees. I was surprised that it was...

    Alta/Snowbird, UT 2/9/2013

I went to Powder on Saturday. I was surprised how much decent powder was still left from the storm 10+ days ago. Powder Country was closed and the Poma Lift was down part of the day (I didn't make it over there at all), but I found good powder: 1) In the trees skiers left of Timberline lift. 2)...
