April Fools $1 skiing at Waterville and Sugarbush

I bailed on my Waterville plans as it looked like the weather was gonna be crappy and I want to make good use of my spring skiing days left. Heading to Lincoln Friday night....haven't decided where to ski yet. Looks like it's gonna be wet Saturday but better on Sunday.

The future of glade skiing in NYS

Why is tree skiing an issue only for ski areas in NYS? Aren't the same inurance companies insuring areas in VT, NH and other states? Why would it only be an insurance issue in NY? I suspect it has more to do with the liability laws of the state affecting how the insurance company views its...

Where to Live in Upper New England

NEK and northern NH are definitely less influenced by "outsiders" than the more accessible areas. Too far from the $$$. Sooner or later the "remote" areas of these two states will change. Waterbury is a nice location.

Where to Live in Upper New England

Correct, speaking more about the feel of the state when I moved here six years ago. The times are definitely changing...and will continue to move in that direction as more people move out of MA. I am afraid that NH will lose it's identity soon, if it hasn't already. "Live Free or Die" won't be...

Where to Live in Upper New England

I believe a Grand Union (supermarket) qualifies a town in VT for "urban" status. I moved to St. Albans from northern NY and lived in there for five years and I have to agree with Steve's comment. For the first six months that I lived there you could hear a pin drop when I walked in the Annex...

    Eastern Closing dates 2007-08

It's sad that skiers are getting so soft they can't ride a T-bar unless they're "advanced". Even a long, steep T-bar isn't that tough to ride. Sheesh.

April Fools $1 skiing at Waterville and Sugarbush

I've got a meeting at school for my youngest at 8 AM and plan on taking the rest of the day off and heading to Waterville. The only thing that may stop me is a torrential downpour. Gotta keep an eye on the wx. I don't want to waste a vaca day as I only have few left.

    Wildcat NH - March 12, 08 - Day 1

Nice TR Patrick. Good to get in some family time. I have a 4th grader who did EYT this year and will be doing the 5th grade passport next year while his little brother will be in 4th right behind him. Looking forward to some cheap family sliding over the next couple years. Sorry conditions...

April 18 - April 27 - Who will still be open?

My last day at Jay last year was 4/22. They had snow but it was disappearing fast. Still some good turns to be made but the place was almost empty. When people stop showing up, areas won't stay open. Costs too much to spin the lifts and all the other stuff to make it more than bragging rights...

    Jay Peak, VT: 03/09/08

We were there Sunday morning as well. :? Spoke to the nice folks in customer service and they informed us they were down for the day. She told me tram side was down due to wind hold and stateside had no power and they weren't sure when they would get it back. Met some old ski racing friends in...

i'd rather be in the east right now than...

riv, Maybe I'll see you there. I'm headed up today and will be at Jay tomorrow hoping for the best. Maroon Karbon jacket, black stickered helmet, black pants, orange boots. Probably with my son in an orange jacket. Keep your fingers crossed. Sounds like it's going to be really breezy. If I see...

    Glazed and confuzed

My son has baseball tryouts tomorrow so we will probably head north to Newport Saturday afternoon and try Jay on Sunday unless the weather forecast is a complete washout. Might go anyway in case the forecast is wrong. There's probably a good chance of that this time around. Anybody else heading...

    Ski Wing/Grosstal

Has anyone skinned up and skied the old Ski Wing/Grosstal ski area off of West Five Mile Rd. in Allegany, NY? I grew up very near there and it had a pretty good pitch. Not sure how grown up it is since it hasn't operated since the early 80's. The last time I was up there in the summer one of the...

ski tenney, day after untracked, truly a benny.

Thanks Roger! You probably did see us and we probably saw you. We will still be getting up to North Conway at least one more time this year so I hope to demo a pair up there. I demo'd a pair of Gotama's when up at Jay on Friday and it really makes skiing deeper snow a lot easier....and more fun...

Snow Ridge Powder Pigout 3/1/08 (with pix)

Wow, you set off an avy at Snow Ridge! Glad you were OK. I think the real powderhounds head for the real jewel of the area...Woods Valley in Rome. :) Snow Ridge really gets hammered with snow. I'm surprised it slid down to dirt. The snowpack must be really deep in Turin. I never skied McCauley...

ski tenney, day after untracked, truly a benny.

I was there too with my wife and kids. It was like having a private ski area. I could believe there were so few people there. We had a great day and the snow was fantastic. Skied 2-for-1 on our EMS special offer thingy's. Most of the on-piste was pretty tracked up but there were still little...

    Self Waxing

+1 on Reliable Racing. They have everything you need and more. I will check out the Tognar site as well as I'm looking for info on base welding Ptex. I hit a dinger Saturday and I can see the base layer under the Ptex and using a Ptex candle just isn't cutting it. Not hard enough and won't stick...

    Jay: 02/23/08

I kinda look at our great early season this year as a big bonus. I think the best is yet to come. I predict a big St. Patrick's day dumping! Not based on fact or science, just good vibes. I'm planning on hitting Jay this week(end) for a couple days. Maybe Thurs & Fri or Fri & Sat. Then we'll...

    ICELANTICS

It's snowing here (Haverhill, MA) now. They're letting the schools out early.... Heading for Crotched tomorrow AM. Should be good. Wachusett will probably be better but I just can't go south of the border to ski.....it's against my principles....wait ....where did I leave my principles....Oh...

    ah! new england!

....or I could just sleep at home this weekend and ski Crotched and Gunstock Saturday and Sunday. Possibly Pat's or Ragged also. The boys have been pestering me to go to Gunstock and we always have a good time at Crotched. Maybe Jay/Burke/Wildcat next Thurs - Sun. Takin' a couple days off next...
