    Jay Peak, VT 5/9/2010

Nice! Mom's Day turns are always good. I was wondering how Jet was looking? With fresh snow it might be tough to tell how much base is left. The Tram House is nice. The old Hotel Jay will be history soon. The ice rink opens Memeorial Day weekend. A lot of stuff going on up there. I can't wait...

    Jay Peak this weekend, anyone?

Tracked out? Hardly. There were people skiing it on Wednesday but there were still plenty of fresh lines available Thursday....all day. We took the short skin to the top of the Bonnie quad for our last run (or you could just hike it) and there were still plenty of fresh lines down the mountain...

    Jay Peak this weekend, anyone?

Hmmmm....I'll let you know. We're gonna be at Jay early with the rest of the crowd. Attitash is just barely covered with slush. Jay's base is higher so it should be better up there. South of Conway was pretty bare.

    Jay Peak this weekend, anyone?

I'm on vaca this week and we got a cheap condo at Attitash so I'm headed to Jay Thurs AM for the first chair. Not sure where to go Friday. Maybe Jay again, maybe somewhere else. Depending on the avy report, I might go up to Hermit Lake shelters Friday and see what plays out. I expect the avy...

    Jay Peak, VT: 02/06/10

Pat, The red chair was replaced the year before I really started skiing there a lot. I skied at Smuggler's for the most part in 87. After that I skied primarily at Jay because it was free. How much farther up the hill did the old red chair go? Could you ski right off it to the cat track to JFK...

OB Avi death Near Ouray, CO?

I've been checking out the Steamboat/Flat Tops avy forecast prior to my trip out on the 20th. Pretty sketchy, especially on North facing aspects. Check out the avy report . http://avalanche.state.co.us/pub_bc.php?zone_id=-1

    Jay Peak, VT: 02/06/10

The patrol shack was one of the off season Improvements last summer. I'm not sure if the whole building was replaced or just a new, steeper pitched roof. The bottom part looks the same. The green chair didn't have a mid-station by the time I started going there in the late 80's. Before the Green...

Gut Tug will travel to NY - Saturday December 12, 09

Harvey's got it. Erie usually freezes, Ontario has open water all winter. The area around Turin/Highmarket gets hit hard. Tends to be very localized. Lowville, not so much. Booneville not so much. At least in my experience....

Gut Tug will travel to NY - Saturday December 12, 09

Tug Hill is pretty wild, n'est pas? What an incredible snow machine. I have never seem snowdrifts along the roads like they have there. Nice TR Patrick!

    Snow Ridge 12/13/09

Snow Ridge is a nice little mountain. They really get HAMMERED with lake effect snow off Ontario. I used to live in Lowville and Rome and the difference in snowfall from those locations is phenomenal. We would get a foot in Cowville and Turin would get 3+. I can be difficult to get there and I...

Best Chance for Face Shot in North East

Natalie Merchant is from the Jamestown area. That's where they started out. I saw them play the Continental Club near Chippewa St. in Buffalo many moons ago. As a side note...they sucked that night. Holiday should be good for fresh snow. It looked like they were getting hammered by the snow...

Community volunteers to reopen Big Tupper

I skied at Big Tupper when I was going to college in Potsdam, NY. On Sunday afternoons we would ski Whiteface for $5 if you could get the ticket people to sell you a Local's Sunday ticket w/o ID. We skied Big Tupper at night. At the time that guy owned it who made his money in Atlantic City...

Airplane and some of Pipeline - June 5, 2009

Nice report guys! Great pics. I put my stuff away but reading this report makes me wonder if I was ... ummm...premature. I know my son would be psyched to go once more. \:D/

    amazing rockpile skiing 5/13/09

I was hoping to head up the auto road for some slacking tomorrow but the weather and my schedule may not cooperate. Raining pretty good here and it's supposed to last through mid day tomorrow. My son doesn't get back from a scout trip until 11 AM and it's gotta be a good 4-1/2 hour drive to and...

Jay Peak May 3rd Last Day

Could've been. I bet the snow was nice up there. I asked my son if he wanted to hike over and he saw the rope at the top of the chair with the "closed" sign and he said "no thanks". It's hard to tell a kid it's OK to break the rules when you raise them to follow the rules. Now, walking up from...

Jay Peak May 3rd Last Day

My son Sam and I were there both days this weekend. Sunday was nice and and we were glad the sun wasn't hiding behind clouds for the whole day. Saturday was the better day if you wanted to cruise instead of crush bumps. Sunday was bumped up wall-to-wall on Jet. I don't normally seek out bumps...

    Jay Peak's last hurrah

Yep, stil there, still serving beers. Suzie has moved on but Al is still behind the bar. He's been there as long as I've been going there.
