Eastern Closing dates 2007-08

I know many places refuse to give out exact numbers, but I wonder when we'll start seeing ski day or revenue figures for EC ski areas in 2007-08 and begin determining which hills did better/worse than last year.

They're already starting to trickle in.

i'll bet stowe did better, i've never seen crowds, mid-week, like i did this year. mid-week pow days inbounds, snow trashed on par with jay rates. great hill, but gettin a bit busy for my taste. sunday river also, monday and fridays are now considered weekend days. good for business. i would think that most did better cuz of the early start and the good finish last year.

Whiteface, Okemo and Jiminy have all already announced record seasons. Gore's business was up but no record. Jiminy's record was published in our news section over the weekend. The others were published in our news section today.

And Patrick, one correction to your list that I noticed: Jay is closed midweek this week. And one clarification, Sugarbush's hours are 10-4:30.

I don't know the exact numbers, but I would suspect a good to very good year in most Quebec and Eastern Ontario ski areas.

Thanks, list edited.

I haven't edited the list for this latest news (not official). Odds that Mont Alta (without snowmaking) will make it to May are pretty much nil, they'll have a hard time opening this coming weekend.

Eastern skier visit numbers should be way up from last year, considering that last year was a total bust until February.

While Tony has probably got the main reason (better weather early)..Gore also added two parking lots.

Impressive numbers for Whiteface: LINK

I wonder how the Catskill areas fared. While all came close to their regular (modest) snow numbers, they got killed with rain/freeze events several times.

May 4 will be the final day of skiing and riding at Sugarloaf for the 2008 season, and with 216 inches of snowfall this winter, guests will find excellent spring skiing conditions. Lift tickets will be available for just $39 when coupled with a rafting trip the day before, and will be available for purchase at Northern Outdoors.

looks like getting past the 1st weekend in May might be tough.

Yep, that looks like it's going to be the last weekend of lift serviced skiing in the East.

Wildcat is no longer talking about May 11 and they're hoping to make it to May 4.

I'll try to update the list later today.

I see that Sun Peaks, Jiminy, and Okemo have also set new ski day records this season.

Question: while I understand why a mountain would include a season passholder's ski days in its total, isn't it kinda bogus at the same time since the passholder's daily revenue is probably negligible?

Mods, feel free to break out my posts as they really don't concern closing dates.

No need unless it grows into its own tangential discussion.

We're going to open things back up for this weekend (Saturday and Sunday the 26th and 27th) because we can (and should). Two day tickets covering both days will be just $25 and available for purchase inside the Stateside retail shop. We'll also be setting up a BBQ right at the base of the Jet Triple with good food, music, a picnic area and a ton of soft snow. Bathrooms will be available inside the Stateside base lodge as will some limited retail offerings (just no cafeteria services-you'll want to be outside anyway).

Hey, we're hearing about natural snow in the forecast next week too so, if we can, we're going to do it again next weekend. Come on out, move up, and get some spring skiing and riding in. We're going to keep pushing the season as long as you're still showing up so show up. ok?

Wow! Nice marketing again from the folks at Jay! 25 bucks for 2 days of riding at jay... who's got a better deal?

Nice stuff... BBQ right off the tripple... a couple of beer waiting hidden in the snow... What a party! Bring your lawn chairs and head on to the slopes people!

Mount Washington. 8)

PS. Update from the ski areas.

MSS is mentioning a possible opening until May 11. After this weekend, MSS will only be open on weekend if possible.

Weather looks nice at Mont Comi, so they'll open for one last weekend.

So after this weekend, 5 areas looked to keep going, however all but Sugarloaf have question marks about the first weekend in May.

Looks like Sunday River is undercutting Mt. Washington as a frugal alternative. Sunday! Sunday! (monster truck voice) Sunday River's got free skiing - last day!

Thanks for the info Kmartshopper. Yep, I remember those free day at the River on May 1st or last day.

Mont Alta's season is over.
