How will ski areas fare with 5.00/gallon gas

The easiest way to avoid spending a whole lot of money on gas maybe not to drive and ride a bike... or you could take public transportation. Although, I don't think that is readily available in many places in this country. How is public transportation in SLC? Is it truly functional, or is it merely cosmetic... i.e. nobody uses it, but it's there.

I've been avoiding the NYC subway the past little bit just riding my bike everywhere. Dodging cabs is a lot like skiing trees. :D

I also like that my quads are getting a workout without skiing. Come next season I'm rocking it!

We're said to have one of the best mass transit systems for a city our size in the U.S. Much of it was constructed as part of our 2002 Olympics infrastructure development. Trax light rail as of last year (i.e., before the current gas crunch) was enjoying ridership that hadn't been anticipated until 2020. As a result they've accelerated the building pace to add several spur lines into the west valley. FrontRunner commuter rail just opened connecting Ogden and SLC, and they just broke ground on phase 2 which will stretch to Provo.

I just paid $3.17 for regular and they're saying it may fall a lot further.

In true American fashion, I'm now considering buying a Hummer H3. The cougars at Plattekill will be all over me. 8-[

Hope it doesn't fall any farther. We'll have to postpone the revolution.

I'm not sure which is funnier...James and the cougars, James and the H3, or the idea all three converging at Plattekill.

As they say ...this thread is useless without pics.

jame's your selling your self short.. i think the coeds will be all over you..and if you wear that John Deere hat you'll be in like Flynn  8)

"As the chief executive of a major resource-producing state, I can confirm that jamesdeluxe is considered a highly desirable sex symbol by hockey moms like myself. Ya! You betcha!

But enough about jamesdeluxe; let's talk about oil. if John McCain and I are elected in the upcomin' election, we will drill the livin' hell out of my state and the gulf coast for any and all remainin' fossil fuels. When this oil eventually makes it to market, any ski areas in god-fearing red states like Alaska and Utah that are still in operation will benefit.

For all of you folks in the communist northeast and west coast... well, you can go to one of those indoor skiin' facilities. Doggone it."

Comedy.

Loved the fact the she corrected Biden when he said "drill, drill, drill" and she told him it was "drill baby drill."

How about pronouncing the word NUCLEAR correctly.

CB's quote - she's the person you want to have wait on you at Cracker Barrel.

Gas is now about $2.00 per gallon here in Massachusetts. I don't think we're going to be seeing $5.00 per gallon gas this winter. This has to be good news for the ski areas. I just hope the weak economy doesn't discourage people from skiing. Let's pray for cold weather and lots of snow.

Think about why gas is $2.00...it's because the economy is in total meltdown. If gas was $5 the Stock Market would probably be at 14000 (not cause and effect but you get my drift).

I'd gladly take $5/gallon now with all it entails.

Paid $1.77 here yesterday.

Regardless of the $0.75 CDN a Liter (ie. $1 CDN = 0.77 US yesterday), I test drove a Prius last night. It's on our short list of cars. Really liked it...however size and waiting period might be an issue of us.

Gas is at 72.2 cents per litre, 57.7 cents $US, in Ottawa this morning. But the falling oil prices have clobbered the CDN$ vs. the US and the exchange is below .8 and that will have a much bigger impact on Canadians considering US ski destinations versus higher gas prices.
