Jay, VT – Jay Peak officials announced Monday that the northern Vermont resort will reopen for skiing and riding this Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8. The resort had discussed the possibility of closing for winter operations after this past weekend, but determined that the snowpack was still significantly deep.n“There’s just too much snow to close now,” said JJ Toland, Jay Peak’s Director of Communications. “After a March and April that weren’t exactly ‘spring-y’, we’ve finally got the sunshine and warm temps that skiers and riders live for. Throw in the fact that we received close to 400 inches of snow this winter, and there’s no way you can say no to one last weekend.”
The decision to keep spinning the lifts for skiing and riding comes as the resort begins its May at Jay celebration. The month-long party will have special two-for-one dinners at Alice’s Table as well as smoke house barbeques, tapas nights, live music, and brunches that will feature a Bloody Mary bar. This week’s lineup includes a Cinco de Mayo party in the Tower Bar on Thursday and a special Mothers’ Day brunch on the last day of skiing and riding, Sunday, May 8th.
A special lift-and-lunch combination ticket for this Saturday has been set-up on Jay Peak’s Facebook page. By “Liking” the resort on Facebook, skiers and riders will get a $39 ticket that will get them on the lifts and lunch that day.
Hours of operations and what lifts and trails will be open for skiing and riding this weekend will be announced later this week.
