Vikersund, Norway – Sarah Hendrickson and World Champion Lindsey Van, both of Park City, Utah, went two-three as the USA’s ski jumping women continued to put in another dazzling performance Saturday in a Continental Cup on the fabled jumping hill in Vikersund. Austrian Daniela Iraschko won the event with a second round long jump of 119.5 meters to continue her her strong early season showing.nThe pair of Americans had U.S. fans in awe. Hendrickson took second with jumps of 112.5 and 115.0 meters, with third going to Van with leaps of 109.5 and 116.6.
Jessica Jeromem also of Park City, who won her first Continental Cup earlier in the week in Finland and sits second in the overall Continental Cup standings, gave the U.S. depth by finishing sixth, while Abby Hughes of Park City finished eighth.
U.S. ski jumper Peter Frenette, of Saranac Lake, N.Y., is inching ever so closely to the top 20 in the Continental Cup. The 18-year-old was tantalizingly close in 26th Saturday and even closer Friday in 21st. Frenette recorded a 23rd in Finland one week ago. The winner of the men’s competition was Kim Sorsell Elverum of Norway. Anssi Koivuranta, who was a world class nordic combined skier last season and has switched over to special jumping, was second.
