Moscow, Russia – The race for the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup Parallel title is entering its eighth round out of ten stops this Saturday in Moscow, when the Russian capital will host the fifth and last parallel slalom of the 2010-11 season. The contest will take place at the Vorobyovy Gory venue, right in the heart of the city, where the world’s best race boarders will meet first for the qualifiers to determine the top 16, who will compete in night finals.nTop aspirants for victory are current World Cup leaders Ekaterina Tudegesheva of Russia, and Aistria’s Benjamin Karl. While the 23-year-old Tudegesheva aims for her career’s eighth win and her season’s fifth on home snow, Karl is not only ready to extend his 2011 winning streak but to also clinch a new milestone of his career.
Karl, who thus far this season remains undefeated, would be the first no alpine snowboarder to clinch six consecutive victories with a win in Moswcow. The 2010 Olympic parallel giant slalom runner-up currently sits on a streak of five consecutive wins, tying the record set in 2005 by Switzerland’s Philipp Schoch.
Despite his success this season, three riders are still in the hunt for the title. Austria’s Andreas Prommegger sits in second, with South Tyrolia’s Roland Fischnaller and Aaron March both within 430 points of Prommegger.
On the women’s side, Tudegesheva leads the pack with 4,890 points. Switzerland’s Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli is her main rival with 3,910 points. An Austrian trio consisting of Marion Kreiner (3,240), Claudia Riegler (2,920) and Doris Guenther (2,400) rounds out the top five.
