Sunday River Celebrates the Season with Winterfest Weekend

Newry, ME – Sunday River isn’t rattled by Friday the 13th. Especially since this month, it happens to coincide with the start of the Maine ski resort’s Winterfest Weekend.

This Saturday will be packed with ways to make merry. Santa Claus will catch a lift down the Chondola before heading to the Welcome Center from 4 to 5 p.m. and master chainsaw artist Ron Carlson will carve a log into a work of art between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. near the lodge’s base area fire pit.

Sunday River’s very first night skiing session of the year will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. under North Peak’s lights. This Saturday, any regular daytime lift tickets will include night skiing for free and those who show up after 4 p.m. can nab night skiing lift tickets at the South Ridge Lodge for just $5 each.

Revelers should stick around South Ridge to get their après on around the bonfire and take in the fireworks spectacular at 8:30 p.m., then don their most hideous holiday attire for the Foggy Goggle’s Ugly Sweater Party. Shut Down Brown will provide the live music and any party goer who donates a gently worn coat will be entered to win a free season pass. Doors open at 9 p.m. Recoup on Sunday while watching the Pats obliterate the Dolphins at 1 p.m. in the Foggy Goggle.
Sunday is also Maine Day, which means that all you have to do is show proof of Maine residency at the ticket window, and you’ll receive a $29 ticket, $20 rental, or a $39 ski or ride package (which includes your ticket and rental equipment).
