Utah Food Bank and Alta Ski Area Team Up for the Holidays

Alta, UT – Utah’s Alta Ski Area is showing its support for those in need via a food drive on New Year’s Eve.nThe facts are staggering. One in 10 Utahns, and one in eight Utah children live in poverty. More than 134,000 Utahns receive food stamps, and 63,000 eat dinner at a soup kitchen. One in seven Utah children is at risk of hunger, and nearly 40 percent receive free or reduced school lunch.

To do its part, Alta is setting up collection bins for the Utah Food Bank in parking areas on Dec. 31. Officials are urging all who come up to ski the last day of the year to bring a canned food item to share. Alta will keep the collection barrels out through the end of the ski area’s annual New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade, which starts at 6 p.m.
