Park City, UT – Park City police and Summit County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an accident on the slopes of Deer Valley Resort in Utah today that killed a Salt Lake City man.

Deer Valley spokesperson Emily Summers indicates that James Kimball, 38, was skiing on the resort’s Little Bell run beneath the Silver Lake Express chairlift on Bald Eagle Mountain, at its intersection with Solid Muldoon, at around noon today when he lost control and struck a tree. Summers indicates that the victim, who died almost immediately, sustained severe head injuries. Witnesses indicate that Kimball was not wearing a helmet.
Kimball was employed by Deer Valley Resort from 1994 through 2001 in the lift operations, food and beverage and reservations departments.
Resort officials were forced to close the Silver Lake Express lift and adjacent ski runs for approximately two hours today while police conducted their investigation. Kimball’s family was on site this afternoon, meeting with Deer Valley Resort general manager Bob Wheaton.
