Free Learn to Ski and Snowboard Night This Friday in Southern Maine

Berwick, ME – Shawnee Peak Ski Area in Bridgton, Maine will provide learn to ski and snowboard packages to children in the Berwick area free of charge this Friday night. Thirty Shawnee Peak SnowSports School instructors and rental shop employees will travel to Powderhouse Hill in Berwick to introduce at least 100 children to the sports of skiing and snowboarding.n“We introduced this program two years ago, in the hopes of getting kids in the southern Maine area on the slopes,” said Ed Rock, General Manager and VP of Shawnee Peak. “Many kids aren’t able to travel to a ski area, so we thought it best to bring Shawnee Peak to Powderhouse Hill – a community-owned and volunteer-run ski area within easy access of thousands of local residents.”

“Powderhouse Hill’s main objective is to provide skiing and riding as Mother Nature makes it available,” said Eric Mundell, Volunteer Coordinator for Powderhouse Hill. “We have no rental equipment and no paid ski or snowboard instructors, so when Shawnee Peak provides those two key components, we are able to introduce many more kids to the sports.”

Kids in the Berwick schools, ages 8 and up, were invited to pre-register for the free lesson packages. Shawnee Peak staff will arrive at Powderhouse Hill at 4 p.m. and lessons will go out at 5 p.m. on Friday. Everyone is invited to come to Powderhouse Hill for skiing and riding from 5 to 9 p.m. this Friday,. All Learn to ski and snowboard participants will receive a special offer to visit Shawnee Peak.
