Venture Snowboards Starts Making Skis

Silverton, CO – Venture has made a name for itself handcrafting snowboards and split boards in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. But now the company has a new offering: their first ski.

Explains company founder and design engineer Klemens Branner, “They’re like regular snowboards, but half as wide, and you put one on each foot!  It’s a crazy concept for a dedicated snowboard company, but we wanted to share the love with our two planker friends.”

Prototypes of these inaugural Venture skis have been kicking around the San Juans in Venture’s backyard for a couple of winters.  “We started building them mainly to hook up a few of our employees who ski and some choice Silverton locals,” says Branner, “but once our customers got wind of it they clamored for more.  There are lots of skiers who like Venture’s grassroots approach and want a piece of the action too.”

The Sultans have a surfy powder shape and are available in two lengths: 175 and 187 cm. They are flat underfoot with a gradual, mellow rocker on the tips and tails.  Vital specs are 145/120/135.

Venture is releasing a limited number of the skis this February through their Shape Shack, which is a new experimental division of the company.  “The idea with the Shape Shack is to take a bit of a mad scientist kind of approach, experimenting with designs that might normally be considered too wacky, and then testing those concepts by offering small batch releases to the public,” says Branner.  “We are only building about a dozen or so pairs this spring.”

Sultans are now available through the company’s Webstore for $895, and are expected to sell out quickly.
