Ohio Ski Resort Installs Two New Chairlifts

Chesterland, OH – Cleveland area skiers and riders will find not one, but two new chairlifts when Alpine Valley opens for the 2013-14 ski and snowboard season.

It’s all part of a $2.5 million-dollar investment by Alpine Valley owner Peak Resorts to revamp the Munson Township ski area this summer. One new lift, a 1,600-foot base-to-summit quad, will be accompanied by a shorter triple chairlift purchased from a Utah resort to serve Alpine Valley’s beginners slope.

“All of us here at Peak Resorts are proud to be rejuvenating Alpine Valley that for decades has been providing winter fun for the community.  I am excited to be a part of all these new improvements and I think our guests will see this as a positive move in the right direction for this wonderful ski area,” said Josh Boyd, President of Boston Mills Brandywine and Alpine Valley Ski Areas. “I hope these improvements will show to our guests of all ages and abilities Peak Resorts’ ongoing dedication to providing a fun and exciting place to come enjoy all the wonderful things winter has to offer.”

Also newly installed will be a state-of-the-art SMI snowmaking system equipped with 30 new tower and portable fan guns along with a new pump house and maintenance facility.   The additional tower mounted fan guns will be installed in key locations to increase snowmaking coverage allowing terrain to be open faster.  The SMI fan guns’ on-board air compressors reduce their carbon footprint, and thus Alpine Valley’s environmental impact.  The additional portable fan guns and fan gun connections will be added to enhance snowmaking efficiencies.

Terrain enhancements this summer include the widening of “One Trail” and “Two Trail” as well as the relocation of the tubing hill  to where Arrowhead and the Half Pipe used to be, along with two new handle tows for tubers, and regrading of the resort’s beginner area to provide a more consistent slope.

Area folks can get a preview of the two new chairlifts and other enhancements when Alpine Valley holds its annual Open House, Oct. 25-27. The improvements at Alpine Valley come on the doorstep of the launch of the new Summit Season Pass which will for the first time this winter offer unlimited skiing and riding at all three northeast Ohio ski areas: Alpine Valley, Boston Mills, and Brandywine.
